Leading Global Value Chain Company Engages KDHI to Source Raw Cashew Nuts in Ghana
Accra, 01 April 2017 - KDHI has been engaged to source Raw Cashew Nuts in Ghana for its client in India that is a leading cashew trader and processor. The KDHI team has key relationships throughout the raw cashew nut supply chain in Ghana to successfully execute and scale operations of its trading arm.
The Cashew industry of Ghana is one of the fastest growing agriculture sub-sectors and it is being driven by the increasing global demand for processed cashew nuts, particularly in India and other Asian countries. Ghana is one of the world’s producers of high quality raw cashew nuts and each year, companies from all over the globe travel to Ghana in order to source the raw material needed to produce for the end consumer. Africa, in general, produces about 55% of the world’s raw cashew nuts, with the rest coming from India, Brazil, Vietnam and others.
Cashew has become the leading non-traditional export earner in Ghana contributing $197 million in 2016, according to the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). The country's current raw cashew nut production sits at ~55,000-70,000 MT and has goals to bring this number to 200,000+ MT. Cashew nuts also serve as a hedge against the cocoa industry which contributes a significant amount to Ghana's GDP. Unlike Cocoa, Cashew nuts are more well suited for the increasing temperatures of Global Warming.
